FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ):
For newbies to martial arts
1. What is the difference between kungfu, karate, and other martial arts?
Kungfu is the general term used to classify any martial arts that originate from China, and is a term
translated from two Cantonese characters. Karate and other systems of martial arts originate from other
parts of the world, such as Japan and Korea. Choy Lai Fut is a system of kungfu, and so is taught
with a heavy emphasis on Chinese traditions.
2. How would I know if Choy Lai Fut is right for me?
It's a very personal thing, people differ not only in physical stature and
ability, but also in personality and goals. Our adult students have varied
in weight from 90 lbs and not involved in sports other than kungfu, to 260
lbs and experienced in football and weightlifting -- just to give you an idea
of how diverse people can be. The only way we can tell is if you try it out,
and we have the opportunity to watch you in action. Or, give us a call, we
can probably answer individual questions more effectively one-on-one - everyone's
needs and abilities are different. We won't bite, and we won't throw you a
smarmy sales pitch. We are more interested in ensuring that students are there
because they really WANT to be there, and feel 100% comfortable about it.
3. I have been a couch potato all my life. Will I have difficulty keeping up?
Not at all. We start everyone with the basics, and work hard to ensure that everyone is on the same page. We don't like
leaving people behind, and so long as you're willing to train hard, we're devoted to making our students
the best that they can be. You just have to come in with an open mind and the willingness to train hard.
