NEWS ARCHIVE 2004
September 21st - Announcement to all students: lion dance coming up on October 23rd. Please check the forum at www.choylaifut.com/sd/phpBB2/ for details (you need to be added into our CLFMAH Students group to see this). And for those of you who have yet to join our forums, please do -- let's get into the computer age, shall we....... ******************* August 18th - Our brand spanking new self defence website at www.selfdefensevancouver.com is up!! It will be maintained as a sister site to this one, and will focus on news topics and programs specifically for self defense for women and kids. There is a forum in there also, and we welcome all students and visitors (yes, men are welcome too) to join in. ******************* August 11th - We had a great time at our anniversary banquet. To those of you who missed it, well, we hope to see you next year! This year we had over 500 people in attendance, with lots of lion and kungfu demos to see. We are especially proud of our kids who performed a special lion dance this year, and in fact this should be one of the very first times in Vancouver history where a lion dance was done entirely by children under the age of 10! Pictures and video clips coming soon.
******************* August 7th - A new FAQ section has been put up for your reading pleasure: "Self defence vs. traditional program". Worth looking at if you are not sure which program is more suited to you.
******************* July 22nd - Our children's self-defense
program has just commenced, and will be running every Tuesday
from 5:30 to 6:30 pm for a total of 2 months. There is a discount on
the course for students already enrolled in our traditional kungfu program.
We are accepting registrations now for the next group, so call or e-mail
us if you are interested. ******************* July 5th - Our lion team just got back from
a short trip over the July 1st holiday to Salmon Arm, where we did a performance
at the conclusion of the Shuswap Dragon Boat Society's mini Dragon
BoatFest. Our sincere thanks go to the owners of Ming's Garden Restaurant
(our Si Hing Ming Mah and his wife Eugenie) for being such wonderful and
gracious hosts. We would also like to thank Cindy and of course Graham
of the Grey Grebes for giving us our first dragon boat lesson. We had a
blast on the water!! Pictures of the event to come soon. ******************* June 18th - Upcoming events:
******************* April 19th - Our women's self-defense participants are doing well and will be getting tested on May 1st. Good luck to you all! Meanwhile, we are now in the midst of planning our next offering of the program, and it looks like mid May will be the next start. Classes will likely also be on Saturday afternoons again like the current class. ******************* March 8th - Women's self-defense program starting on March 13th! We'll be running the class from 2:00 to 3:30pm every Saturday for a total of eight consecutive weeks. There is still space left in the class, so please contact us as soon as possible if you would like to sign up. ******************* March 5th - Virus/spam alert: Recently there have been a huge number of emails that have been sent out using our domain name choylaifut.com as the source of the emails. In particular, they use what appears to be a randomly generated name followed by our domain name, and may look like this: "asdkfjawiejfaw@choylaifut.com". Please be aware that we have not been sending mass mailouts to anyone, especially NOT with an attachment. The only emails we send out are normally our newsletters, which are sent out only to our students and to those who have voluntarily signed up for the newsletters, but no one else outside of these two lists. Therefore, if you receive something from us that appears to be spam, please note carefully that this is likely a virus and should be deleted immediately. The Symantec website has some information on a virus that may potentially be the culprit. ******************* February 24th - Our FAQ section "How to practice" has been updated with two new sections (2 and 3). It has some basic tips and our personal views on the topic that may be helpful to budding martial artists. Check it out here. ******************* February 11th - Our kids lion dance team has been practicing hard for over half a year now, and have even performed in two parades! We're extremely proud of their achievements thus far, and expect to see even greater advances this year. If your son or daughter is up to the challenge and wants to get involved in a team environment, this is the place! ![]() *******************
We've still got a couple more performances to go, so we'll be back a little later to put up new material on the website. ******************* November 25th - It's been a while since we've updated the website, so we thought we'd give all of our students a little heads-up: Christmas dinner party for our students and friends Richmond and Vancouver schools on December 13th. Women's self-defense classes starting January 5th, running Monday evenings for 8 consecutive weeks. ******************* October 18th - We have a new Chinese website!! Ok, we caved under pressure finally, due to numerous requests to translate all of the information about our school to Chinese. Check it out here (there's also a link to it in our menu above).
