OUR PROGRAMS: Chinese traditions, Chinese culture. The traditional southern Chinese lion consists of a papier mache head supported by a bamboo frame, with an intricately embroidered fabric tail attached. One lion is manned by two people, and is accompanied by a musical team made up of a drummer, gong player, and one or more cymbal players. In our program, you will have the opportunity to learn all the various parts of the lion dance team. Training as the lion "head" or "tail" is actually demanding work, but is excellent as a way to strengthen the back, shoulders, arms, and legs! It also builds incredible stamina and endurance. As well, you will be taking part in various performances throughout the year - so you will learn to work as part of a close-knit team. (Note: you DON'T have to be Chinese to take part - everyone is welcome!) So what's the difference between a lion and a dragon, anyway?
